The 2007 Australian Netball Team is a finalist in the prestigious Commonwealth Sports Awards to be announced in Glasgow on June 12.
The world champions have been short-listed with New Zealand's Rugby 7's Team and the South African Rugby Team in the Most Outstanding Team category after a superb unbeaten international record in 2007.
Nominated by Netball Australia and the Australian Commonwealth Games Association, head coach of the Australian Netball Team, Norma Plummer said such international recognition capped off a very successful 12 months for the national squad.
"This is a great honour for the Australian Netball Team and our sport to be in contention for this prestigious international award," Plummer said.
"Every single player and the staff went above and beyond to keep the team goals on track and win the 2007 World Netball Championships."
Australia re-gained the world title for the first time since 1999 when they defeated former world champions New Zealand, 42-38 on November 17, 2007 in Auckland. Nine players made their world championship debut alongside three veterans of the 2003 Jamaica campaign, 34-year-old captain Liz Ellis, vice captain Sharelle McMahon and goal shooter Catherine Cox.
