Thursday was a busy day at the National Centre for Indigenous Excellence (NCIE) in Redfern when former Australian netball team captain Liz Ellis dropped in to run a netball clinic and Swans co-captain Adam Goodes came by.

Goodes was promoting the Federal Government's Learn. Earn. Legend! campaign in conjunction with the AFL's indigenous round.

He said it was a great thing for Aboriginal people and for anyone who doesn't know much about indigenous culture to get involved because of the fantastic and rich culture that exists today.

Goodes encouraged indigenous youth to stay at school as did Minister for Employment Participation, Senator Mark Arbib, when he came by.

The NCIE was established to assist young indigenous people from across Australia achieve their dreams and aspirations in sport, education, arts and culture.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd opened the centre in February.

Redfern is home to some of Australia's first indigenous arts, legal and health organisations such as the Aboriginal Legal Service (1970), Aboriginal Medical Service (1971), National Black Theatre (1971), Redfern Aboriginal Land Council (1972) and Aboriginal Housing Company (1973).
